تصميم لوحة المفاتيح وترتيب الحروف باللغة الإنجليزية كما نعمل عليه اليوم يرجع لعام 1873 ولا نزال حتى اليوم بعد مرور أكثر من 100 عام نستعمل نفس التصميم ويطلق على لوحة المفاتيح بهذا الترتيب إسم لوحة مفاتيح QWERTY وسميت بهذا الإسم لأنها نفس ترتيب الحروف بالسطر الأول من لوحة المفاتيح Q و W و E و R و T ثم أخيراً Y.
